Mopar engines article?

G'day Jim.  The recent feature article on Ford engines (by Tim Boyd?) and his follow-up in the forum was interesting and very informative, and I would like to know if there are similar features planned for Mopar & GM engines in the future.  I would certainly appreciate it.

Cheers

Steve

Downloading an F1 iPhone

I was thinking this morning that the iPhone is a great invention. It allows one not only to talk to the world, but also a thousand others things by way of the Internet and, of course, functions as a camera (and recording device and…). It was while I was doing this that I found the [...]

Looking behind the Williams-Renault headline

Tomorrow I shall be travelling for much of the day, so I thought I would leave you with a thought about the Williams-Renault deal that has just been announced. For me it is an obvious move for both parties. The Cosworth engine is clearly not a match for the others this year and looking into [...]

jo-han plymouth fury

here is a kit i built 2 or 3 years ago with my dad, a 68 plymouth fury ottawa police car. now i'm sure some of you have seen the johnny lightning version. the decals are wrong on it! the refference car they used was a custom car someone built. this model has what they really used (except it should have ottawa below the logo)

the engine is the factory 440 comando. the decal came from a Lincoln mint 69 dodge charger. it is a magnum sticker but its the closest i could find.

I painted this in red and black as i bought it from christcurch and since chch is munted i thought it would be nice to make a canterbury model (canterbury, the christurch reigon)

i made it with the 5 litre 302 motor it comes with. the wheels are also from the kit, the centers are painted with boltgun metel or normal english dark silver.

Why the Monaco GP still packs a punch

Once a year Formula 1 absolutely lives up to its billing as the most glamorous sport in the world and that time comes at the Monaco Grand Prix.

On Friday morning, I had to gingerly step aboard a tender and then climb a rope ladder dangling from the side of a yacht to interview Renault's Nick Heidfeld on deck. Yes, this really could only happen in Monaco.

Without a doubt, the glamour and prestige of the tiny principality, where residents are required to have a significant sum in the bank, inflates F1's wow factor.

"I love it here, it is fantastic," crooned Lewis Hamilton, a Monaco race-winner in 2008 for McLaren. "Wow, this is such a beautiful place to be."

A panoramic view of the course

Monaco's street circuit provides a unique thrill for spectators (Getty)

After a muted showing in recent years, the harbour is once again crammed with multi-million pound yachts. Force India owner Vijay Mallya held a Bollywood-themed party on the Indian Empress while the imposing Force Blue made its return with flamboyant owner and former Renault boss Flavio Briatore on board.

Red Bull and Toro Rosso have also taken to water in their floating motorhome - complete with its own swimming pool - while Ferrari have gone one better by putting up their personnel on a yacht.

With such exotic playthings at hand it's hardly surprising the guest list includes Hollywood A-listers Scarlett Johansson and Leonardo di Caprio.

But for all the privilege and status on show, the Monaco Grand Prix also provides unrivalled access for fans.

The more affluent spectator can fork out up to 3,800 for Sunday's race but the cheapest seat is 65 and offers amazing trackside views and a party atmosphere from the Rochers hill along the side of the royal palace.

It's also the only paddock where fans can walk along the waterfront and peer into the teams' inner sanctums before posing for photos with their heroes as they emerge from the motorhomes.

And when the racing is over and dusk falls, the party begins on the track as fans sip a biere or two at the Rascasse bar.

Girls at a promotional event

Glitzy promotional events are par for the course in Monaco (Getty)

When Stirling Moss raced here during the Sixties he developed a habit of waving at female fans sunning themselves along the harbour.

Moss said he even used it as a ploy in the 1961 grand prix when he was under pressure from Richie Ginther's chasing Ferrari. Moss took his hand off the wheel to salute a girl and prove he wasn't feeling under pressure.

But can McLaren driver Jenson Button, a Monaco playboy turned triathlete, still have a sneaky glimpse at an average speed of 100mph? "No," he answered sternly.

Whatever you think of Monaco's champagne and celebrity, the yachts and those who pose upon them, Button is spot on - none of it detracts from the racing through the streets.

The miniature land, stacked on a rocky lip of land between France's Mont Angel mountain and the Mediterranean, is just made for the fastest cars in the world to hurtle around.

First comes the noise, the hum hidden among the biscuit-coloured buildings that gathers to a roar as the cars flash past.

Watching the cars fly by the grand Casino, weave nose-to-tail round the hairpin, thunder through the tunnel and then out again in a blink of light past the water and back round to Rascasse is mesmerising, and often nail-biting.

The late Ayrton Senna, who won in Monaco a record six times, spoke of an out of body experience as he glided between the barriers and round the twisting curves.

Driving precision is everything here and there is virtually no let-up, no straights to clear the head over 78 laps.

Two-time Monaco winner turned BBC pundit David Coulthard commented: "For me there's no better challenge for the driver than Monte Carlo and no more glamorous grand prix. For me it's still a thrill."

Video: Roger Federer behind the scenes with SLS AMG Roadster

The star in the Mercedes latest commercial for the SLS AMG Roadster features the famous tennis champion Roger Federer. And while for sure until now you have seen the commercial, now is time to see a few shots made "behind the scenes." Is true that Federer hs just lost Wimbledon quarterfinals, but when it comes about driving he surely acts like a pro. a top speed of 197 for a tennis-man is not bad, no?

Short reminder: the Mercedes SLS AMG roadster version will be powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine with 563 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. However, being a much heavier model, it will rocket from 0 to 60mph in 4.0 seconds before topping out at approximately 192 mph.

And if you haven’t see it just yet, hit the jump for the Mercedes-Benz "Super Service" SLS AMG Roadster Commercial.

Team orders in spotlight again

Will Christian Horner regret not utilising team orders in Brazil? © Getty Images
Michael Spearman of The Sun, says that the 65,000 fine Ferrari received for breaching the team orders ban in Germany will seem like loose change if Fernando Alonso wins the drivers? title in Abu Dhabi.
?The extra seven points Alonso collected when Ferrari ordered Felipe Massa to move over for him in Germany earlier in the season are now looking even more crucial. ?And the 65,000 fine they picked up for ruthlessly breaking the rules will seem loose change if Alonso clinches the title in his first year with the Maranello team. ?Red Bull could have switched the result yesterday given their crushing dominance and still celebrated their first constructors' championship just five years after coming into the sport. ?That would also have given Webber an extra seven points, leaving him just one behind Alonso.?
The Guardian?s Paul Weaver says that if Fernando Alonso does take the drivers? title in Abu Dhabi, Ferrari owes a debt of gratitude to Red Bull for their decision not to employ team orders in Brazil.
?If Alonso does take the title next week it would not be inappropriate were he and Ferrari to send a few gallons of champagne to Red Bull's headquarters in Milton Keynes. ?While Red Bull should be heartily applauded for the championship they did win today their apparent acceptance that Ferrari might carry off the more glamorous prize continues to baffle Formula One and its globetrotting supporters. ?Their refusal to make life easy for Webber, who has led for much of the season and is still seven points ahead of Vettel, means that whatever happens in the desert next week Alonso, the only driver who was capable of taking the championship in the race today, only has to secure second place to guarantee his third world title.?
The Independent?s David Tremayne is also of the opinion that Red Bull may regret not using team orders in Brazil.
?Had Red Bull elected to adopt team orders and let Webber win ? something that the governing body allows when championships are at stake ? Webber would have left Brazil with 245 points ? just one point off the lead. For some that was confirmation of his suggestion that Vettel is the team's favoured driver ? which generated an angry call from team owner Dietrich Mateschitz in Austria and was much denied by team principal, Christian Horner. ?And it sets up a situation where, if the result is repeated next weekend, as is likely, Vettel and Webber will tie on 256, five behind Alonso.?
The Mirror?s Byron Young has put Lewis Hamilton?s fading title chances down to an inferior McLaren machine and he admits the 2008 World Champion now needs a miracle.
?Sebastian Vettel's victory sends the world title fight to a four-way showdown for the first time in the sport's history. ?Hamilton goes there as part of that story with a 24-point deficit to Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, but with just 25 on offer in the final round in six days' time it would take more than a miracle. ?Driving an outclassed McLaren he slugged it out against superior machinery and stiff odds to finish fourth.?

1940 Ford Standard Coupe WIP

Well, I want to build a 63 Chevy in Laurel Green (my college ride for 4 years commuting) but I haven't seen one at HobbyLobby or Michaels yet. My LHS has one for $20 that I may go ahead and buy but then I still need to order paint from MCW. I also thought about building the 70 Challenger below but I think the color is banana which I also will have to purchase. I also have a 65 Pontiac GTO and I would like to do the same color as the picture of the 66 Tempest below or an Iris Mist Poly. So I am going to order those paints and in the meantime I'm going to build this 40 Ford Standard Couple in dark green paint that I have.  It is finally raining in Houston and I am not going to complain as we haven't had rain in months. So I'll start by cleaning up the body and getting everything ready for paint.  Thanks for looking! Cool
